Hydronic Heating Systems
Tankless vs. Boiler

Traditionally, hydronic heating systems have always offered clean, efficient, even and zoneable heat. With the advent of the Rinnai Commercial Tankless water heaters, there are many advantages to using this system instead of a traditional boiler:

  1. Tankless water heaters take up much less space and require no floor space be sacrificed. They are compact and hang on the wall out of sight.
  2. Rinnai units are sealed combustion. In other words, they pull all their combustion air from outside, eliminating the need both for a big flue pipe that extends through the roof and added combustion air inlets, which can cool a basement substantially. The Rinnai concentric vent system is installed right through a rim joist to the outside and has no ability to spill CO or other dangerous gases into the indoor air, making for a safer indoor environment.
  3. Since the Rinnai only uses the BTU's that it needs to keep the water hot, it will save tremendous amounts of energy over most traditional boiler systems. The Rinnai will modulate from 15,000 to 199,000 BTU's in 1 BTU increments. A standard boiler needs to keep a large volume of water hot all the time, thereby wasting energy. The Rinnai contains less then 4 cups of water at any given time, so it is just like an "in-line" heater for your hot water.
  4. The Rinnai Tankless Water Heater is a computerized appliance, so it automatically adjusts for incoming water temperature, flow and volume, creating a consistent stream of hot water within ½ of a degree of the set output temperature. This means you get constant temperatures into the hydronic distribution system with very little variation, creating more consistent room temperatures and comfort.
  5. Rinnai units can be installed outside the building, having a built-in freeze protection system to 30 below zero. When Propylene Glycol is used as protection for internal piping, freeze-ups are virtually eliminated and the unit can be out of the building entirely. This can be very helpful when installing snowmelt systems and garage heat.
